What AVIF to JPG conversion does

AVIF is one of the newest image formats and offers excellent compression, but support is still limited — many programs, editors and devices cannot open it yet. Converting AVIF to JPG gives you a file that works everywhere, so you can view, edit, print or share it without trouble.

How the conversion works

Each AVIF image is decoded and re-saved as a standard JPG. If it has a transparent background, it is placed on a white background, since JPG does not support transparency. Quality is kept high so the result looks the same to the eye.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete. Metadata embedded in the original, such as the location and time it was taken, is removed during conversion.

How to use it

  1. Drag your AVIF files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted JPG files.

Good to know

JPG is the most compatible choice for everyday use. If your AVIF has transparency you need to keep, or you want a lossless copy, convert to PNG instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AVIF and why can't I open it?

AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec that produces very small, high-quality files. It's increasingly used on the web, but many older apps, editors, and operating systems still don't support it — which is why AVIF files you download often won't open. Converting to JPG solves that.

What happens to a transparent AVIF?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a white background. If your AVIF relies on transparency, convert to PNG instead to keep it.

Will converting AVIF to JPG lose quality?

There is a small, one-time change because the image is decoded and re-encoded once to high-quality JPG (85). For ordinary photos the difference isn't noticeable, and the result opens on any device.

Why is the JPG sometimes larger than the AVIF?

AVIF is one of the most space-efficient formats available, so an equivalent JPG can end up larger. You're trading a little file size for a format that opens everywhere.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 AVIF files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as JPGs in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
