What PNG to JPG conversion does

PNG images, such as screenshots and graphics, can be quite large. Converting them to JPG produces a much smaller file that is easier to email, upload or store, and that opens on any device — handy whenever file size or broad compatibility matters more than perfect detail.

How the conversion works

Each PNG is re-saved as a JPG. If the image has a transparent background, it is placed on a white background, since JPG does not support transparency. A high-quality setting keeps the picture looking the same while greatly reducing its size.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete. Metadata embedded in the original, such as the location and time it was taken, is removed during conversion.

How to use it

  1. Drag your PNG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted JPG files.

Good to know

JPG uses lossy compression, so it is best for photos and general sharing. If you need to keep transparency or sharp, exact edges — for logos or text graphics — stay with PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to a transparent PNG background?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent areas are filled with a white background during conversion. If keeping transparency matters, stay with PNG or use WebP instead.

Will converting to JPG reduce quality?

JPG uses lossy compression, so there is a slight, one-time quality reduction — usually invisible for photos at the high quality (85) we use. In exchange the file gets much smaller, which is why JPG is ideal for sharing and uploading.

How much smaller will the file be?

Photographic PNGs often shrink by 70–90% as JPG. Flat graphics and screenshots save less. You'll see the exact before-and-after sizes after converting.

Should I convert screenshots and text images to JPG?

Usually no. JPG can blur sharp text and hard edges, so screenshots, diagrams, and line art look cleaner as PNG. JPG is best for photographs, where its compression is nearly invisible.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 PNG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as JPGs in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
