Reuse the words without the Markdown syntax
Plain text is useful in systems that do not understand Markdown: a simple message field, a search index or a text-only document. This tool reads document structure rather than deleting every asterisk or hash character it sees.
Headings become ordinary lines, table cells are separated by tabs, and fenced code keeps its contents. Link addresses can be retained after their labels or omitted. Formulas remain readable source expressions; this tool does not turn mathematical notation into spoken language.
Remove formatting with the structure in mind
Structure survives formatting removal
Paragraph breaks, numbered lists and nested bullet indentation remain visible in the text result.
Code stays literal
Asterisks, hashes and underscores inside code are content. They are kept instead of being mistaken for formatting marks.
Choose what to do with links
Keep link addresses when the result must work away from the original document. Turn them off when only the visible labels are needed.
Copy text or save TXT
Review the output before copying, or download a UTF-8 .txt file with your chosen name. Both operations happen locally.
Check the text you want to reuse
A note with a link
Compare visible text with and without link destinations.
# Release notes The **new build** is ready. Read the [installation guide](https://example.com/install). - [x] Check the build - [ ] Update the notes
- Bold markers and heading markers are removed.
- Link labels remain with optional destination addresses.
Code and a small table
Syntax-looking characters inside a code block stay intact.
## Example ```python value = a * b # keep this comment ``` | Item | Count | | --- | ---: | | Notes | 2 |
- The multiplication sign and comment marker stay in code.
- Columns in the output use tabs, not a Markdown separator row.
From MD source to TXT
Provide Markdown source
Paste raw Markdown into the left panel or open an MD file. Rendered rich text and screenshots do not contain the original Markdown structure.
Choose whether to retain URLs
Keep link addresses includes the destination after a link label. Review tables and code in the result before reusing it.
Copy or download
Copy text puts the plain-text result on your clipboard. Download TXT creates a UTF-8 file. The original MD input is not overwritten.
Check the result before sharing
| Content | What to do | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Literal characters | Try a multiplication sign or hash inside code. | Code contents remain intact. |
| Link addresses | Toggle Keep link addresses. | The visible label remains in both modes. |
| Text destination | Paste into a plain-text field. | No bold formatting or HTML elements are required. |
Converting Markdown to plain text
Does this just remove asterisks and hashes?
No. The converter parses Markdown structure. Formatting markers outside code are removed, while literal characters and code contents are preserved.
What happens to links and images?
Link labels remain, with optional destination addresses. Images contribute their alternative text rather than downloading or extracting the image.
Can I convert MD to a TXT file?
Yes. Open an MD file and choose Download TXT. The output is UTF-8 plain text and the original file remains unchanged.
Are tables still readable?
Each table row becomes a line and its cells are separated by tabs. This is a text representation, not a spreadsheet export or a fixed-width print layout.
How are formulas and Mermaid handled?
Formula expressions are kept as text. Mermaid code blocks retain their diagram source; they are not converted into descriptions of the drawing.
Is my Markdown uploaded?
No. Parsing, copying and TXT generation run in your browser. Website analytics and ads are separate from document conversion.
How this tool handles your document
- The input is parsed locally; no document conversion request is sent to this site.
- This tool does not load linked images or visit hyperlink destinations.
- Text is copied only when you press Copy text; the source is not saved as a draft by this page.
