Work with the cells before the pipe characters
A Markdown table needs a header, a separator row and a consistent number of cells. Use the grid to edit those cells directly, or import data you already have. The generator writes the Markdown syntax while you review the rendered table.
Copying a range from Excel or Google Sheets usually gives tab-separated text. Paste that range through Paste data, or select a CSV or TSV text file. The first row becomes the header. This tool does not open .xlsx workbooks or preserve spreadsheet formulas and merged-cell layouts.
A small table editor for document work
Edit the table visually
Change cell text, add or remove rows and columns, and choose left, center or right alignment per column.
Convert CSV to a Markdown table
CSV import handles quoted commas and embedded line breaks. Choose a separator manually when automatic detection does not match your file.
Keep special characters in their cells
Vertical bars and Markdown syntax characters are escaped. Cell line breaks use a safe br tag in the output; plain text is not treated as executable HTML.
Check and reuse the result
See both the generated source and rendered table. Copy Markdown, save an MD file or continue with the table in the existing editor.
Try realistic imports
A quoted CSV cell
A comma inside quotes belongs to one cell.
Name,Notes Release,"Ready, pending review" Build,Passed
- Import as CSV. The Notes cell keeps its comma.
- The first row becomes the table header.
A copied spreadsheet range
Tabs separate columns; special characters remain text.
Task Details Review A | B Formula a * b
- Import with a tab separator or automatic detection.
- The vertical bar does not create an extra column.
From spreadsheet cells to Markdown
Edit cells or import a range
Use Paste data for copied spreadsheet cells or CSV text. Import CSV / TSV opens a text file for review. Import replaces the current grid and treats the first row as headings.
Adjust the structure
Add columns or rows as needed. Set each column alignment. Blank values in short rows are filled so that every row has the same width.
Review and copy Markdown
Check the preview and source. Download MD saves the table locally; Continue in editor sends the generated source to the editor in this browser.
Check the result before sharing
| Content | What to do | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Column count | Import a quoted comma and a vertical bar. | Each value stays in its original cell. |
| Blank cells | Import rows of different widths. | Missing trailing cells become empty cells. |
| Destination | Paste the Markdown into your target platform. | GFM alignment works where supported; br support depends on that platform. |
Creating and importing Markdown tables
Can I paste a table from Excel?
Yes. Copy a rectangular cell range, choose Paste data and paste it into the import box. Tab-separated clipboard text is supported. The first pasted row becomes the header.
Can I upload an XLSX file?
This version imports CSV, TSV and text files. For an XLSX workbook, copy the cell range or save the relevant sheet as CSV first. Formulas and merged-cell formatting are not preserved.
What happens to uneven rows?
Missing cells are filled with empty values up to the widest row. If the result is unexpectedly wide, check the selected separator and CSV quoting before importing.
How are vertical bars and line breaks handled?
A pipe inside a cell is escaped so it does not split a column. Line breaks become br tags, which this preview supports. Some Markdown systems disable HTML and may show those tags literally.
Does it support every size of table?
The browser editor has a capacity guard for very large grids. If an import exceeds it, you see an error and the current table is kept. This is intended for document tables, not entire large workbooks.
Is the spreadsheet data uploaded?
No. File parsing, cell editing and Markdown downloads happen on your device. Continue in editor uses temporary storage within the same browser tab.
How this tool handles your document
- CSV and TSV files are read locally. No spreadsheet data is uploaded.
- Import replaces the grid only after successful parsing and capacity checks.
- Continue in editor uses temporary session storage; this page does not create a public share link.
