What JPG to PNG conversion does

PNG is a lossless format that many tools require for editing, and it supports transparency. Converting JPG to PNG is useful when a website or program only accepts PNG, or when you want to edit an image repeatedly without adding more quality loss each time you save.

How the conversion works

Each JPG is re-saved as a PNG. From this point on the image will not lose further quality when re-saved. The result looks the same as the JPG you started with.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete. Metadata embedded in the original, such as the location and time it was taken, is removed during conversion.

How to use it

  1. Drag your JPG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted PNG files.

Good to know

Converting to PNG does not restore detail that JPG already discarded — it simply stops further loss — and PNG files are usually larger. For plain sharing or printing, JPG remains the lighter option.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG can't restore detail that JPG's lossy compression already discarded — including any visible artifacts. It preserves the image exactly as it is now, so converting is useful for a lossless editing base, not for fixing an already-compressed photo.

Why is the PNG much larger than the JPG?

JPG uses lossy compression that makes photos very small, while PNG is lossless and keeps every pixel, so PNGs are typically several times larger. That's the expected cost of a lossless format.

Will my JPG get a transparent background?

No. A JPG has no transparency to begin with, so the PNG will be fully opaque. Converting to PNG does not remove or cut out a background — it only changes the file format.

When should I actually convert JPG to PNG?

Convert when you need a lossless working copy for editing, when a tool or platform specifically requires PNG, or when the image has sharp text or lines you want to keep crisp through further edits. For sharing photos, JPG is usually the better, smaller choice.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 JPG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as PNGs in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
