Extract document structure instead of copying a webpage’s layout
Use HTML you have already saved or copied to create a readable draft for documentation or a repository. The converter keeps headings, links, lists and ordinary tables while removing scripts and page styling. You can inspect the generated Markdown before saving it.
This is HTML-to-Markdown conversion, not a webpage scraper. Paste source or open an HTML file. A page URL, a screenshot and a PDF are different inputs and are not fetched or interpreted by this tool.
What survives HTML conversion
Core document elements
Headings, emphasis, links, lists, quotes and basic code blocks become corresponding Markdown syntax.
Tables become editable source
Simple HTML tables become GFM-style pipe tables. Check headers and any cells that originally spanned several rows or columns.
Inspect text and rendered output
Switch between Markdown source and preview. The source is the deliverable; the preview helps you spot missing hierarchy or surprising line breaks.
A local conversion workflow
Open an HTML/text file or paste source, then copy or download the Markdown. No conversion upload is required.
Start with a document you actually need
An HTML article excerpt
Move article content into a repository or documentation draft.
<h2>Review checklist</h2> <p>Check the <strong>source</strong> before publishing.</p> <ul><li>Verify claims</li><li>Review links</li></ul>
- Heading level retained
- Emphasis remains readable
- List items stay separate
A small HTML table
Turn ordinary cells into an editable Markdown table.
<table> <thead><tr><th>Format</th><th>Purpose</th></tr></thead> <tbody><tr><td>HTML</td><td>Web content</td></tr><tr><td>Markdown</td><td>Editable source</td></tr></tbody> </table>
- A real header row
- No merged-cell assumption
- Cell text is complete
A practical workflow
Use the actual HTML source
Paste markup or open an .html/.htm file. Do not paste a URL and expect a website fetch, or assume copying a rendered page always includes its source.
Review what was simplified
Check heading levels, nested lists and table headers. Layout containers and CSS styling are not part of the Markdown result.
Finish the draft
Copy Markdown or download MD. Continue in the Markdown editor when you need to restructure a table, adjust code fences or add explanations.
Check the result before sharing
| Content | What to do | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Merged cells | Review rowspan and colspan content manually. | Basic Markdown tables cannot represent every HTML table layout. |
| Images | Keep valid full image URLs or embed local images later. | Relative paths lose their webpage context and need adjustment. |
| Code and line breaks | Inspect the generated fences and paragraph boundaries. | Whitespace-based layouts may need manual correction. |
| Embedded scripts and forms | Confirm that the result contains only the intended document text. | Interactive webpage behavior is deliberately removed. |
Questions about this workflow
How do I convert HTML to Markdown?
Paste the HTML source or open a saved .html file. Review the preview, switch to Markdown to inspect the generated syntax, then copy it or download a .md file for further editing.
Can this convert an HTML table to Markdown?
Yes, for ordinary table structure. GFM pipe tables do not fully represent merged cells, nested layouts or all cell-level styling, so review those cases manually.
Can I enter a website URL?
This page does not fetch websites. Copy the relevant HTML source or save an HTML file and open it. Dynamic page content may need a separate extraction workflow.
Will fonts, colors and layout be preserved?
Markdown represents document structure rather than arbitrary page styling. Scripts, forms, custom CSS and interactive elements are removed.
Why did an image stop working?
The image may use a relative path or depend on the original site. Replace it with a valid full URL, or add an embedded local image in the Markdown editor.
Is my HTML uploaded?
HTML-to-Markdown conversion, preview and MD download happen locally in your browser. Optional external image loading contacts the image host.
How this tool handles your document
- HTML source is sanitized before local conversion.
- The result is document content, not an executable copy of the webpage.
- Your destination editor may interpret Markdown extensions differently; inspect a small sample first.
