What JPG to WebP conversion does

WebP is a modern format designed for the web: it usually makes photos noticeably smaller than JPG at similar quality. Converting your JPG images to WebP is a simple way to speed up a website or save storage, since the same picture takes up less space.

How the conversion works

Each JPG is re-encoded as a WebP using a high-quality setting that balances small size against visible detail, so the image looks nearly identical while the file shrinks.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete.

How to use it

  1. Drag your JPG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted WebP files.

Good to know

WebP is supported by all modern browsers, which makes it excellent for websites. If you need the file for an older program or a service that does not accept WebP, keep or use JPG instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why convert JPG to WebP?

WebP usually produces a noticeably smaller file than JPG at the same visual quality, which means faster-loading web pages and less bandwidth. It's a great choice for images you publish on a website.

Will the image quality drop?

The image is re-encoded once to high-quality WebP (quality 85). Because JPG is already lossy, this adds one more light compression pass, but for web photos the difference is generally not noticeable while the file gets much smaller.

Do all browsers support WebP?

All current major browsers — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera — support WebP. Only very old browser versions don't, so for today's websites WebP is a safe, well-supported choice.

How much smaller will the files be?

It varies by image, but WebP commonly cuts 25–35% off a comparable JPG at the same quality. Detailed photos save less; flatter images save more. You'll see the exact before-and-after sizes after converting.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 JPG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as WebP in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
