What PNG to WebP conversion does

PNG files, especially graphics and screenshots, can be large. WebP keeps the same look with transparency support but at a much smaller size, which makes it a popular choice for faster-loading websites. Converting PNG to WebP is an easy way to cut file size without changing how the image appears.

How the conversion works

Each PNG is re-encoded as a WebP at a high-quality setting, and transparent areas are preserved. The image looks virtually the same while the file becomes noticeably lighter.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete.

How to use it

  1. Drag your PNG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted WebP files.

Good to know

WebP is ideal for web use and is supported by every modern browser. If you need to open the image in an older editor or a service that does not accept WebP, keep the original PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PNG to WebP keep transparency?

Yes. WebP supports transparency, so a transparent PNG stays transparent after conversion — while taking up much less space. That makes it a strong choice for logos and icons on the web.

Is the conversion lossless?

No — the image is encoded as high-quality WebP (quality 85), which is lossy but dramatically smaller than a lossless PNG. For most web graphics the quality looks identical while the file shrinks a lot. If you need pixel-perfect lossless output, keep the PNG.

How much smaller will the file be?

PNGs often shrink by 60–80% as WebP, especially flat graphics, logos, and screenshots. Photographic PNGs save even more. You'll see the exact before-and-after sizes after converting.

Why use WebP instead of PNG on my website?

WebP gives you PNG-style transparency at a fraction of the file size, so pages load faster and use less bandwidth. It's supported by every current major browser, which is why many sites now serve WebP instead of PNG.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 PNG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as WebP in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
