Free PNG to ICO Converter | Make a Favicon from PNG Online
Turn a PNG into a multi-size ICO icon for websites and apps.
What PNG to ICO conversion does
ICO is the format used for website favicons — the little icon shown in a browser tab — and for Windows application and shortcut icons. Converting a PNG to ICO lets you turn a logo or small graphic into a proper icon file that these systems expect.
How the conversion works
Your PNG is packed into a single ICO file that contains several standard icon sizes (from 16 up to 256 pixels). Browsers and Windows then pick whichever size they need, so your icon stays sharp everywhere it appears.
All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete.
How to use it
- Drag your PNG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
- Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
- Download the converted ICO files.
Good to know
For the best result, start from a square PNG — icons are square, so a square source avoids stretching. A clean, simple image also stays recognisable at very small sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the ICO file include?
Each ICO contains several standard icon sizes — 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels — bundled into a single file. Browsers and operating systems automatically pick the size they need, so one ICO covers favicons and desktop icons alike.
Does the icon keep a transparent background?
Yes. ICO supports transparency, so a transparent PNG stays transparent in the icon. For a clean favicon, start from a PNG that already has a transparent background.
What size should my PNG be?
A square PNG of at least 256×256 works best, because every smaller size is generated from it. A non-square image still converts, but a square source keeps the icon from looking stretched.
Do I still need an ICO file for a website favicon?
Modern browsers also accept PNG favicons, but ICO remains the most broadly compatible choice — especially for older browsers and Windows — because it bundles several sizes in one file. Many sites still ship a favicon.ico for that reason.
How many files can I convert, and is it private?
You can upload up to 30 PNG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as ICO files in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
