What JPG to GIF conversion does

GIF is a lightweight, very widely supported format, sometimes required by older tools, forums or chat systems. Converting a JPG to GIF gives you a simple image file in that format, ready to upload wherever a GIF is asked for.

How the conversion works

Your JPG is re-saved as a single-frame GIF. The result is a still image, not an animation.

All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete.

How to use it

  1. Drag your JPG files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
  2. Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
  3. Download the converted GIF files.

Good to know

GIF can only show up to 256 colours, so photographs may look slightly less smooth than the original. For real photos, JPG or PNG usually look better; choose GIF mainly when something specifically needs the GIF format.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my photo look worse as a GIF?

Possibly. GIF supports only 256 colors, so photos with smooth gradients — skies, skin tones, shadows — can show visible banding or dithering. Flat graphics, logos, and simple images convert with little noticeable change.

Does this create an animation?

No. A JPG is a single still image, so the result is a static, single-frame GIF. To build an animated GIF you'd need multiple frames, which this converter doesn't combine.

When should I actually convert JPG to GIF?

Mainly when a specific tool, forum, or app requires the GIF format. For sharing or storing photos, JPG or PNG is almost always the better choice because GIF's 256-color limit hurts photographic quality.

Will the GIF be smaller than the JPG?

Not usually. JPG is highly optimized for photos, so a photographic GIF is often larger despite having fewer colors. GIF is about format compatibility here, not about saving space.

How many files can I convert, and is it private?

You can upload up to 30 JPG files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as GIFs in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
