Free AVIF to PNG Converter | Convert AVIF to Lossless PNG Online
Convert AVIF to PNG when you need transparency in a format every app supports.
What AVIF to PNG conversion does
AVIF is a very efficient new format, but it is not yet widely supported. Converting AVIF to PNG gives you a lossless, broadly compatible copy that keeps every pixel and preserves transparency — a good choice when you need to edit the image or use it in a program that does not accept AVIF.
How the conversion works
Each AVIF image is decoded and re-saved as a PNG, with no loss of quality and any transparent areas preserved, so the result matches the original.
All processing takes place on our server, and no files are retained. Your files and the converted results are deleted automatically once the download is complete. Metadata embedded in the original, such as the location and time it was taken, is removed during conversion.
How to use it
- Drag your AVIF files into the upload area, or click to select them. Multiple files can be added at once.
- Click Convert. A progress bar shows the upload, followed by processing.
- Download the converted PNG files.
PNG or JPG — which should you choose?
Choose PNG for transparency or a perfect, editable copy; the files are larger. Choose JPG for an ordinary photo where a small file matters more than keeping transparency.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does AVIF to PNG keep transparency?
Yes. PNG fully supports transparency, so a transparent AVIF keeps its alpha channel after conversion. That makes PNG the right target when you need the image to stay transparent in software that can't read AVIF.
Will the image lose quality?
PNG is lossless, so no additional compression is added — the decoded AVIF is preserved exactly. It can't recover detail a lossy AVIF already discarded, but nothing further is lost.
Why is my PNG larger than the AVIF?
AVIF is built for very small file sizes, while PNG's lossless compression is far less aggressive, so PNGs are typically several times larger. That's the expected trade-off for a lossless, universally supported format.
Should I choose PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG if you need transparency or a lossless copy for editing and graphics with sharp text. Choose JPG for ordinary photos where a much smaller file matters more than transparency.
How many files can I convert, and is it private?
You can upload up to 30 AVIF files per batch (20MB each, 200MB total), returned as PNGs in a single ZIP. Every uploaded and converted file is deleted automatically one hour after processing.
